Observation d’une Coronelle girondine (Coronella girondica) albinos dans le cadre SOS serpent

Description

Bulletin n°178

A snake previously identified as an albino corn snake (Pantherophis guttatus), presumably escaped from captivity, was found in a garden in Villeneuve (French department of Alpes-de-Hautes-Provence) and was kept in a terrarium.
A local herpetological association (APHAM) was contacted. The snake was then correctly identified as a native Southern Smooth Snake (Coronella girondica) and was released in the field. An unusual colour pattern was the source of confusion. This issue should be considered during snake rescue operations.
