Bulletin n°180
Exploiting recent advances in phylogeography, taxonomy, distribution and conservation, finescale levels of species diversity, as well as regional proportions of threatened species, were compiled for the amphibians and reptiles of France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland. The obtained maps identified local hotspots of reptiles in meridional regions, while the diversity of amphibians was mostly homogenous across the territories. As expected, the conservation situation varied greatly between regions but did not follow a particular geographic pattern, being partly explained by urbanization pressure. The present overview will be useful to appreciate the diversity and threats of our herpetofauna in a comprehensive spatial framework.
